Ashley Cole's been bending over backwards to impress ex-wife Cheryl Cole and now he's thought up the mother of all plans to win her back for good - he's going to ‘woo' her mum Joan Callaghan.
Lovestruck Ashley, 30, knows that Joan's the one person who could derail a full-blown reunion with Cheryl, 28, so he's doing his best to get her blessing.
The Chelsea star's already asked his former mum-in-law, 51, to join him for a private dinner in the hope of repairing their relationship.
‘Ashley and Cheryl spoke last week and she confessed that she still loves him,' says a friend.
‘But he knows things are still hanging in the balance and he wants to do whatever he can to tip things in his favour.
'Ashley realises getting close to Joan is vital.
‘He's making a real effort.
'First of all, he's asked Joan to go for dinner - just the two of them.
'It's no secret they haven't seen eye to eye, especially in the last months of his marriage.
'He thinks the dinner will be a chance to sort out their issues and show that he's a changed man.'
