Why Janet Jackson doesn’t want niece Paris Jackson to become an actor: 'You’re only a child once’

Janet Jackson has been playing the protective aunt recently.
She doesn’t want niece Paris Jackson to follow the rest of her family into a life of showbiz.
Janet is concerned about Paris' ambitions to become an actress and has advised the 14-year-old daughter of her late brother Michael Jackson to enjoy her childhood, before throwing herself into a career in acting.
“We've spoken about the fact that you're only a child once,” Janet told Prevention magazine.
“I think there's a time for everything, and now is not the time [to act in films]. I told her I thought she should enjoy being a kid, possibly go to college or not, but wait until she turns 18.
“She's a very tough, smart girl. But it's a cut throat industry. I wouldn't want my child to do it.”
Paris was offered her first film role in December last year, affter convincing her grandmother to let her go for it. She is set to star in Lundon’s Bridge And The Three Keys.

Janet’s experiences

Janet knows better than most what it’s like to be a childhood star.
She began her career as a child actress in the 70s and starred in a number of TV shows, including Fame, Different Strokes and Good Times.
And her brother Michael famously started young – joining his brothers in the Jackson Five when he was just 8-years-old.
